INFRASTRUCTURE
Fogo
has an excellent and well-protected harbour which can be
accessed from three different entrances. The main
harbour is able to accommodate larger vessels and, in
season, is taken advantage of by numerous fishing vessels
of up to 65 feet. The largest ocean-going vessels
however usually utilize the wharf at what is known as
Seal Cove, which has the deepest wharfage. For pleasure
boaters, Fogo also has a small craft boat launch.
This picture is from a
painting of a portion of Fogo Harbour that was done by
local resident Gerald Freake. Prints of the painting are
available for sale locally at Peg's Bed and
Breakfast.
The Seal Cove wharf,
formerly the Government wharf, is within the town limits and may be accessed by
local roads.

Within Fogo Harbour is the Fogo Island Co-operative's Fish
Processing Plant. This ultramodern plant
processes crab and sea cucumber. This is a
seasonal operation from late April to early October and
employs approximately 200 to 250 people in peak season.
